Sysco Commits to Diverting 90% of Food Waste From Landfills

In February 2022, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) named Sysco one of the country’s U.S. Food Loss and Waste 2030 Champions.

What does that mean? That means Sysco has made a public commitment to reduce food loss and waste in our operations in the United States by 50% by the year 2030. As a company, Sysco has already committed to diverting 90% of operations and food waste from landfills as part the company’s 2025 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) goals.

Sysco prevents food waste by making meal donations, contributing food to feed animals, and supporting composting efforts.

“[Preventing food waste] contributes to our charitable giving goal of generating $500 million worth of good in our global communities by 2025,” said Neil Russell, Sysco’s Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs and Chief Communications Officer in a press release.

At Sysco LABS, Sysco’s innovation office in Austin, Texas, we’re committed to upholding Sysco’s mission to connect the world to share food and care for one another.

In October, Sysco LABS employees in Austin stopped by the Central Texas Food Bank and packaged 4,200 meals for our neighbors.
