Engineering Managers Share the Advice That Helped Them Break Into Management

“A successful manager focuses on unlocking potential, not micromanaging outcomes.”

This Winter, Sysco LABS had the opportunity to talk to Built In Austin about the challenges, opportunities, and shift in outlook that occurs between growing from a dedicated, focused, and incredible engineer into an inspiring, mission-critical manager.

Sysco LABS’ Director, Engineering, Danielle Cooper, is someone who loves writing code and solving technical challenges —  but also loves discussing ideas and has a knack for seeing the big picture and rallying folks to achieve it. She might not have realized it completely at first, but those are the building blocks of a thoughtful, knowledgable, considerate leader.

We’re thrilled she had the opportunity to talk about her journey and to showcase how a culture focused on team work, collaboration, and creating positive environments allow our teams to grow, thrive, and build some of the best programs and platform in foodservice for our customers..

“I realized that, as a manager, time spent on org-focused, higher-impact tasks unlocked productivity and created broader value.”

At Sysco LABS our dyniamic teams drive Sysco forward through innovative, creative solutions. Every day, we collaborate across the greater Sysco Technology ecosystem to build value and forge connections between our colleagues and our customers.

On the road, throughout our offices and homes, and across the world, we’re driven to deliver success for our customers, no matter what changes and challenges the road holds.
